You know what’s fashionable? A cheerful heart. There’s nothing prettier than someone who is filled with kindness and love (and shows it to everyone she meets). I believe someone can wear the trendiest clothes and not be fashionable. It’s so sad when I meet someone who is so beautiful on the outside but isn’t equally as beautiful (yet) on the inside.

I love this Coco Chanel quote:
“Fashion is not something that exists in dresses only. Fashion is in the sky, in the street, fashion has to do with ideas, the way we live, what is happening.”
-Coco Chanel

Fashion is more than just clothing. It’s everything around us, including our attitudes. For those of you who follow me on Instagram, I have to remind myself of this fact on days when I don’t feel like getting dressed up. I sometimes get frustrated when I have trouble putting together outfits for the day (partially because I don’t like getting fashion-blocks, and partially because I’m posting my outfit for 7000+ people to see!)

What helps me through those days are the other #fashiondiaries entries. I love looking at everyone’s pretty outfits, getting ideas and writing positive comments on the ones that really inspire me! Saying positive things quickly turns my day around, and suddenly, I’ve been inspired to create the next day’s outfit.

A few days ago, I was having one of those fashion-block days. So I picked one of my default go-to outfits (skinny jeans, oversized sweater with a belt and boots). A beautiful girl on Intstagram made this comment on that #fashiondiaries post: “This is fashion? No.” (I deleted her comment to protect her privacy after this post). I gotta admit the comment stung a little. I’m not sure why, probably because I was having an off-day to begin with. But then I got to thinking. Why isn’t it fashion? Yeah, maybe it’s not something you’d see in Vogue. But I never see outfits from Vogue strolling around the grocery store either. My fashion belongs to me. Your fashion belongs to you. Wear what makes you feel CONFIDENT and beautiful!

For as much as I work on my outside appearance, I try even harder to work on the beauty inside. (sometimes it’s hard!!) Here’s a youtube video of Joyce Meyer, one of my spiritual role models. She tells it like it is about the power of words.

This was just what I needed today; I’ve been feeling much the same (minus the 7000+ followers, thank goodness)! Thanks for sharing, dear!

Love this. I, too, have been having fashion blocks. I’ve been feeling as though my outfits are uninspired and boring. I haven’t been posting to instagram because I thought, “ehh.. no one wants to see THIS”. But, you know… even though I wore something comfy and “boring” today… it was ME, what I felt like wearing and what I felt pretty in. It was what worked today :) I felt like posting it, so I did! God sees my heart, my beauty, no matter what I wear. And he delights in me! Thanks for inspiring and encouraging those of us who are leaning toward fashion challenged… ;) ) And for knowing and sharing what beauty truly shines and matters! LOVE AND HUGS!!

I love what you wrote and this put me in tears because you wrote it beautifully. I didn’t realize that people would write negative comments like that on IG. Those skinnies and oversized sweater is one of my favorite fashion diary of you. Actually, they’re all my favorites : ) I lied. Why? Because you represent yourself in a geniune, kind, and gentle soul kind of way that draws people into you. Its funny, because I was just trying to get another fellow IGer to do a fashion diary and she commented that she pretty much only wears jeans and tees. And I told her that was ok because that’s her style, that’s who she is. I wouldn’t want her to change her ways just to impress others. So… Well put! Christina, you have been an inspiration to me, and because of that, I have been able to inspire others. You are changing People’s lives! It’s not just About fashion, but you remind us to have kindness, live one another, and to live the best life possible!! You are a sweet, gentle soul and a pleasure to have met on IG! Keep on inspiring and being the beautiful you!!!

Oh Natia, we’re such bad friends for one another because we always make each other cry!! haha….you’re such a wonderful spirit and that’s why i love following you. Isn’t it funny how we can sense another person’s spirit and personality through the computer? i love it. AND i love how you inspire so many people. you are absolutely right about the jeans and tees. that’s who she is and you were so amazing for telling her that!!! BUT, you’re gonna have to stop leaving me such long comments!! hahahah!!!, as soon as I saw your comment, my first thought was….shouldn’t she be doing homework right now!?!!?!?! that was totally the nerdy teacher coming out of me. lol how’s your master’s classes going??? how’s the brain and education class?? i’ve been wanting to study that!!! xoxo!!!

Great post! It’s always a great reminder to see how a positive attitude really is the prettiest thing a person can wear! <3

I have been following you on IG for so long and can’t believe I haven’t checked out your blog sooner! I hope you realize the positive effect you have on so many that you wouldn’t have ever come in contact with if you didn’t do littlefashiondiaries on IG. As a Christian, I am all the more excited for you and your large following because you so strategically balance Christian hope and love, and fashion fun. You are doing a beautiful thing, and I’m sorry that not everyone initially appreciates it… but God sees what you’re doing and I know you please him immensely, for inspiring even when you don’t FEEL like it.
