I admit, I’m horrible at carving pumpkins.  It doesn’t matter how much time and effort I put into it, my carved pumpkins end up looking like pumpkins with a giant hole on the side. (creative, I know).

BUT, I am good with anything glittery.  That’s why I’ve decided to bypass the ‘ol carved pumpkin routine and go straight to the glitter.  If you’re anything like me and would rather glitter your pumpkins, just follow these step-by-step instructions to make the prettiest pumpkins in town!

Step 1: Gather your materials.  You will need:

  • A pumpkin (or two…or three!)
  • Two sponge brushes
  • Glitter ribbon
  • Scrap cardboard
  • Elmer’s Glue
  • Metallic Paint (or spray paint….it is very windy where I live so I had to hand-paint my pumpkin).
  • Glitter!

Step 2: Squeeze your metallic paint onto the cardboard.

Step 3: Scoop up a tiny amount of paint onto the sponge brush.

Step 4: Apply a thin coat of metallic paint on your pumpkin.  This is the primer coat.  (The outside of your pumpkin is slick, so the first coat will not stick very well, and that’s okay!)

Step 5: Let the first coat of paint dry.  (because it’s a thin coat, it shouldn’t take more than 3 or 4 minutes).

Step 6: Paint a second and final coat.  (you may have to paint a third coat depending on your paint brand.)

Step 7: Squeeze glue onto the same piece of cardboard.  With your second sponge brush, paint on your glue small sections at a time.

Step 8: Shake that glitter tube!! Glitter your little heart out!!

Step 9: Let pumpkin completely dry.

Step 10: After the pumpkin has dried, paint the stem of the pumpkin with your metallic paint.  Let dry.

Step 11: Tie a pretty glittery bow on the stem of the pumpkin.

Step 12: You did it!! Enjoy your glittery pumpkin!!!
